We are still firmly in the paper and pen world here (wet signatures). Under Massachusetts law, many of these documents must be witnessed and notarized. The witnesses must be two individuals who are NOT mentioned in any of your plan documents. For the documents that don’t require witnesses and notarization, it is still best practice to do so since other states may require both. Each witness must be over 18 years-old and have valid government-issued photo identification.
As I am a solo practitioner, I ask my clients to enlist friends, neighbors, and co-workers to act as witnesses for signing.
The firm will supply the notary services. I will come to you for the signing.
I know you work for a living too. I work with my clients to schedule the above meeting times around your life and obligations.
After-hours and weekend appointments are available upon request. The Initial Consultation/Who, What, How/Draft Review meetings are all conducted via Zoom.
If we are all on our game, generally, this process takes about eight weeks. This sort of planning is not just for the wealthy. Let’s get your Personal or Family Contingency Plan in place and cross that weighty item off your “To Do List.”
The truth is, none of us know when we will die… just because something was previously unimaginable doesn’t mean it won’t happen.
